Super Bowl LX: Don’t Get Sacked by These Scams 🏈
- Feb 2
- 5 min read

The countdown to February 8, 2026, is on. But as the nation prepares for the high-stakes clash between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots, a more dangerous game is being played behind the scenes.
Cybercriminals have launched an all-out blitz. In 2026, the biggest threat is "Super Bowl LX ticket fraud" and sophisticated AI deepfakes. According to the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and NBC Bay Area, fans are being targeted both online and on the ground in Santa Clara.
🚩 The "Super Bowl LX Ticket Transfer" Phish

Super Bowl LX is a 100% digital-ticket event. Scammers exploit this by sending "Urgent Transfer" notifications via text to fans searching for "how to buy Super Bowl tickets safely."
💬 A message reads: "Action Required: Your Super Bowl ticket transfer is pending. Click here to confirm."
The link leads to a spoofed login page designed to steal your Ticketmaster or NFL OnePass credentials. In some cases, clicking the link can trigger a background download of a keylogger or "spyware" that records your banking passwords.
🛡️The Defense
Official tickets are never sent via a random link in a text message. They must be claimed through the NFL OnePass or Ticketmaster app. Remember: Screenshots or PDFs are not valid for entry at Levi's Stadium; the ticket must be a live, rotating barcode or a verified "Add to Wallet" pass.
🚩 The "Official Pro Shop" Mirror Scam
Scammers are exploiting the high demand for Seahawks vs. Patriots gear by building "Mirror Sites" that look identical to official team stores.

They use AI-targeted ads to offer "Last-minute Super Bowl gear deals" at 70% off.
These sites harvest your credit card digits. This is a major concern following the 2025 Green Bay Packers Pro Shop breach, in which hackers stole the payment information of over 8,500 fans through a third-party vendor.
🛡️The Defense
Check the URL. If it isn't exactly nflshop.com or seahawks.com, it’s a trap. Look for the official NFL hologram on all physical gear tags. Genuine Super Bowl LX jerseys will never be discounted by 70% the week of the game.
🚩 The AI Deepfake "Prize" Call
In 2026, scammers are using Generative AI to clone the voices of famous players or coaches to launch high-pressure "vishing" attacks.
You receive a video or voice message that sounds exactly like a star player or coach.

With the Apple Music Halftime Show headlined by Bad Bunny, scammers are also peddling fake "VIP Meet and Greet" passes as part of a limited giveaway—but you must pay a small "security" or "registration fee" immediately.
BBB has officially warned that AI-generated celebrity endorsements are surging. No official organization, including the NFL or the teams themselves, will ever ask for payment via Zelle, Venmo, or Gift Cards for a prize giveaway.
🛡️The Defense
If it sounds too good to be true, it’s a bot. Hang up. Even if the voice and face look real, verify the promotion through the official NFL.com or the team's verified social media channels.
🚩 Airport, Parking & Travel "Blindsides"
As fans search for "cheap parking near Levi’s Stadium," physical scams are surging. NBC Bay Area recently warned that unscrupulous sellers are targeting hotel and rental bookings around the Bay Area to exploit the high demand.

Fake parking reservations at "discounted" lots or bogus shuttle services that require upfront payment via Zelle or Venmo.
You arrive to find the lot doesn't exist or the shuttle never arrives. The BBB warns that "too-good-to-be-true" hotel deals on social media are almost always fraudulent and lack buyer protection.
🛡️The Defense
Book parking only through official stadium partners like ParkWhiz or the official Levi’s Stadium app. Verify hotel bookings by calling the front desk directly—don't just trust a confirmation email from a third-party site. If you're staying in San Francisco, use the official AlertSF system (text SuperBowlSF to 888-777) for real-time travel and security updates.
🚩 The "Evil Twin" Public Wi-Fi
Whether you're at the airport, your hotel, or the stadium fan zones, hackers are lurking on open networks.

Hackers set up "Evil Twin" hotspots with names like "FREE_SuperBowl_LX_WiFi" or "Levi’s_Guest_5G."
These rogue access points mimic the names of legitimate networks to trick your device into connecting automatically. Once connected, the hacker performs a Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) attack. They "sniff" your data in real-time, intercepting unencrypted passwords, private messages, and even your credit card details if you purchase while connected.
🛡️The Defense
Use your cellular data or a trusted VPN (Virtual Private Network) to encrypt your traffic. Never log into your bank, email, or a shopping site while on any public Wi-Fi. It is also safer to disable "Auto-Join" for Wi-Fi in your phone settings so you don't accidentally connect to a malicious hotspot.
🚩 Malicious "Free Live Stream" Links
Millions will search for "Super Bowl LX live stream free" to avoid subscription costs.
Malicious sites that look like broadcasters but require a "free account" or "player update."
These downloads are often ransomware designed to lock your device or steal credentials.
🛡️The Defense
Stick to official 2026 broadcasters - Super Bowl LX is on NBC and streaming officially on Peacock, NFL+, and Telemundo.
Your 2026 Defensive Playbook
To ensure your celebration doesn't turn into a financial recovery mission, execute these plays:
MFA is your MVP: Enable Multi-Factor Authentication on your email and banking today.
Pay Protected: Use a credit card for all gameday purchases. Credit cards offer federal fraud protection; Zelle, Venmo, and gift cards do not.
Guest Wi-Fi: If hosting, put your friends' devices on a Guest Network to isolate your smart home and personal data from potential malware.
Don’t let a split-second click turn your Super Bowl LX celebration into a financial disaster. Stay vigilant and enjoy the game.
